For this episode I interview Katherine Akey and Annie Carpenter. Katherine lives in the US, Annie lives in the UK, both are artists and both had their first babies shortly before the world shut down for Covid. The two first met when they were roommates on a boat in the Arctic during an Artist-in-residency in 2015, and they reunited virtually this past summer for "Call Centre", a blogging project coordinated by Allenheads Contemporary Arts (based in Northumberland UK) to document life during the pandemic.
About "Call Centre":
"[Call Centre is] A research project that is inviting people to share their experiences of this time of COVID-19 and how it has impacted on lives and creative processes.
It will engage regional, national and international artists from contrasting rural and urban areas. From their ‘outposts’ the six satellite artists and a writer will focus their research on a variety of areas including home, travel, being stranded, trust, fragility, confinement, politics, the domestic and motherhood."
I was super excited to connect with these amazing artists/new-mothers. You can check out Katherine's work at https://www.katherineakey.com/ and Annie's at http://anniecarpenter.co.uk/ and to read both of their contributions to "Call Centre", along with the blog from the other participants, visit https://www.acart.org.uk/blog
