For this episode I interview B.a. Johnston, a Hamilton based performer and now children’s author. B.A. is known for dive bar performances that include cheap Canadian beer, and singalongs about GST Cheques, and Deep Fryers in bedrooms, and so perhaps the journey to children’s books isn’t so hard to imagine. His new children’s book is called “Gary the Seagull”, and was inspired by a story he tells his son when they go to the beach. Today we talk about this book, and the changes in plans that have emerged during the pandemic. We talk about his 17 year music career, and about that time someone told him “if you play music for ten years you’ll be famous”. We discuss whether his destiny includes Long-Haul Truck driving or continued driveway performances, whether he’ll return to the dive-bar stage, and if there’ll be a dive bar to return to. You can check out BA’s book at https://nimbus.ca/store/gary-the-seagull.html, and his music at bajohnston.bandcamp.com
